High School
Our high school curriculum is designed to meet students where they are, providing depth and rigour in every subject. Through a blend of academic, artistic, and practical lessons, students learn to think critically, develop initiative, and cultivate flexible thinking.
Class 7: An age of discovery
In Class 7, students forge a stronger sense of self while navigating new relationships with the world around them. Exploration becomes a central theme across subjects, as they study historical periods and engage with different cultures. The Steiner curriculum emphasises the integration of inner exploration with outward adventures. In History Main Lessons, students study the Age of Exploration, while in biology, they learn about the Healthy Human Being, aligning both subjects with their developmental stage.
Class 8: Developing independence
In Class 8, students experience a blend of critical thinking and emotional development. Subjects such as History, Maths, and Human Biology are taught through immersive main lessons, helping students understand the world’s laws and find their own voice. They learn to form appropriate judgments and explore how historical events impact their lives today. In Class 8 History Main Lesson, students learn about the Industrial Revolution, starting with a broad understanding of history and building up to researching a topic from that period.
Class 9: Exploring polarities
Class 9 students investigate the extremes of emotions and thoughts. Our curriculum supports this by exploring polarities in all subjects, such as Biology, Chemistry, and History. This helps students develop richer observation skills and steadiness in their thinking, crucial for navigating the world around them. In Geography, students study plate tectonics which parallels the emotional changes of this phase of teenagehood.
Class 10: Seeking balance
In Class 10, students begin to find balance and harmony. They take more responsibility for their work and behaviour, forming balanced judgments and articulating their opinions with empathy. Subjects like Physics, Chemistry, and Geography encourage a deeper understanding of the interconnectedness of the world. Their analytical thinking is nurtured through activities like a Surveying Camp that practises trigonometry knowledge.
Class 11: Developing insight
Class 11 focuses on going beyond sensory perception, integrating disciplines to form a holistic understanding. Main lessons in subjects like Physics, Chemistry, and World Literature challenge students to use abstract thinking and act with social responsibility. The curriculum is designed to help them develop a more profound insight into their place in the world.
Class 12: Embracing independence
Class 12 marks the culmination of the Steiner educational journey. Main lessons in Architecture, World Literature, and Physics prepare them for the world beyond school, fostering a personal capacity for judgment and a sense of global citizenship. Running parallel to coursework, students embark on an independent year-long project that allows them to explore their passion deeply.
Transition to university and beyond
University has become the predominant pathway chosen by our graduates. Steiner students enter university by completing the Special Tertiary Admission Test (STAT) or applying directly to the university. Our past graduates have gained access to courses in all major universities in Western Australia, as well as interstate and international tertiary institutions. Our students are also regularly accepted into the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA).
